Boost Your Beauty Routine with Essential Oils

Of the literally thousands and thousands of uses essential oils can boast about, some of our favourite are the wonderful beauty rewards these oils have to offer. Frankincense with its skin-tightening abilities and Ylang Ylang aiding in the regeneration of skin cells makes all those other expensive beauty products almost obsolete. The list of benefits and uses for essential oils is practically endless, but we’ve taken some of our favourites and listed them here for you, along with some fantastic beauty recipes to kick your skin care regime up a notch.  

Beauty Benefits:

Frankincense Essential Oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it great for evening the skin tone and reducing acne. It helps to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, and protect and regenerate skin cells. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil also encourages new skin cell growth, which improves skin elasticity and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles. Its oil reduction properties also help to fight acne. Lemongrass Essential Oil helps to remove oil and reduce perspiration, making it a perfect astringent and deodorant. Its strong fragrance helps to keep body odour to a minimum. Lavender Essential Oil is known for its soothing and moisturising abilities. Along with Ylang Ylang and Frankincense, it also helps to regenerate skin cells, making it a perfect complement to any skin care regime. It also reduces inflammation and soothes redness and acne. • Natural Deodorant

Combine 50 ml. of coconut oil with 3 drops each of Lavender, Bergamot and Lemongrass Essential Oils for a perfectly scented antiperspirant and deodorant that will last all day.

• Arthritis Cream

Whip 50 ml. of coconut oil until creamy, then mix in 7 drops each of Eucalyptus, Lemongrass and Peppermint Essential Oils. Store in a glass jar and use when needed on joints for a soothing anti-inflammatory.

• Dandruff Shampoo

Add a few drops each of Lavender, Rosemary and Tea Tree Essential Oils to your favourite shampoo for a natural remedy for a dry, itchy, and flaky scalp.

• Puffy Eye Serum

Drop 10 drops Bergamot, 10 drops Frankincense and 5 drops Lavender Essential Oils into a roller bottle. Fill it to the top with almond or grapeseed oil and roll under eyes to instantly reduce redness and puffiness and the appearance of fine lines.

• Cellulite Reducer

Add 6 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil to 10 ml. of coconut or grapeseed oil and massage into skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite over time.

• Heel Balm

Add 3 drops each of Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils to 30 ml. of coconut oil and rub generously into dry cracked heels before bedtime. Wear socks to keep in the moisture.

• Thickening Shampoo

Add 7-10 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil to your favourite shampoo for added volume and naturally thicker hair.

• Nail Strengthener

Mix 5 drops of Frankincense and Lemongrass Essential Oils with 10 ml. of vitamin E oil and rub onto cuticles for stronger nails and healthier cuticles.

• Anti-Ageing Skin Cream

Whip ¼ cup of coconut oil with a mixer until creamy. Then add 7 drops each of Frankincense, Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Rosemary Essential Oils and mix well. Store in a glass jar and use daily to reduce wrinkles, lighten age spots and tighten sagging skin.

• Stretch Mark Reducer

Mix 5 drops each of Frankincense, Ylang Ylang and Grapefruit Essential Oils to reduce the appearance of stretch marks over time.

• Acne Treatment

Apply a drop of Tea Tree Essential Oil directly to blemish to quickly reduce healing time.

• Detox Bath Salts

In a large glass jar, combine 470 ml. of Epsom salts with 20 drops of your favourite oils or combination of oils. For relaxing, use Lavender Essential oil. For keeping the sinuses clear, use Eucalyptus Essential Oil. For lovely skin, use Frankincense and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils. Or simply combine your favourite fragrances, such as Peppermint and Orange Essential Oils.

• Lip Balm

Mix 5 drops each of Lavender and Peppermint Essential Oils with 30 ml. of petroleum jelly or coconut oil for a soothing and great-smelling lip balm.

• Skin Toner and Astringent

Mix 240 ml. of water with 2 drops each of Lavender and Frankincense Essential Oils for a natural toner and pore reducer to use before moisturising.

• Sugar Scrub

Mix 5-7 drops each of Lavender, Peppermint and Rosemary Essential oils into 50 ml. of sugar. Store in a glass jar and use as an exfoliating bath scrub.

• Deep Hair Conditioner

Mix 1.25 ml of your favourite oil, such as olive oil or fractionated coconut oil with 1 - 2 drops of Clary Sage and Lavender Essential Oils. Apply to hair especially at the ends and leave on at least 15 minutes. For best results, leave on overnight. Then shampoo as usual.

• Perfume

Mix 3 - 5 drops of your choice of 2 - 3 oils with grapeseed or fractionated coconut oil in a roller bottle. For a fun fruity, minty clean scent, try Orange, Grapefruit and Peppermint Essential Oils. For a sweet floral fragrance, try Bergamot, Lavender and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils.
